Momojuicing, $5834 on 24,000 shares traded.
Akalawoo, $624 on 42 contracts traded.
Bubs, $532 on 3600 shares traded.

Listen, I hate to harp on the volume thing... makes me sound like Bob "let's not quibble about a couple of Dow points" Pisani. However, the fact of the matter is that when the Dow goes down 150 points and then pulls off a pretty swift afternoon retracement and we can't get respectable volume, something is awry.

The market is moving to the "dark pools."

Now, NYSE bought Matchpoint, or whatever that fucking company is called, so perhaps their stock price will still be just fine. However, volume is leaving the NYSE. For me, well, I hate that. I guess it's good for the big guys executing large block orders at fixed prices.

Quick announcement: This weekend, I'm going to do something a little different around here. I'm just going to open a thread and let you clowns talk about whatever the heck you want to talk about. There seems to be a little community forming here. Want to share your theory of evolution? Fine, do it here... I'll give you a platform. Want to share your stock picks for next week? That's fine too. Want to tell me where the volume on the NYSE is migrating to? Go for it. Anyway, I'll throw out another reminder this week but there you have it... it's like an "open mic" only there's no music, no loser singing, and no one is going to throw money in your tip jar.

Anyway, with that minor announcement out of the way looks like the VO kicked ass today. Misstrade and Momojuicing seem to like the market just fine and there were a couple of other very respectable numbers thrown in there. Apparently only I'm mindfucked.

We traded 1,149,187,000 shares on the NYSE today. A pittance given the movement in the indexes.

Covered JRJC Short @ $39.40.

Yeah, I just don't like the way these stocks keep on ripping.

I think Stewie over at Wallstreak said it best when he said, "I hate chinese spec plays. They're like strippers. They tease you and take your fuckin money."

Well said, Stewie... well said.

Meanwhile, DSL ripped my face off. I sold 200 @ $54.75. Ugh.

The Daily Show, "Cruel Intentions"

Great back-to-back clips from the Daily Show.

They're just smart... and on TV, that's extremely rare.

Where would I be without the ellipses?

Radiohead, "In Rainbows"

I'm listening to it right now... very cool.

You can go to their site and download it for however much you choose to pay. I paid $8, but since the audio isn't CD quality, I suggest you pay half that.

(Meanwhile, I'm not linking their site because it's currently down. I pre-ordered mine so I got it via email.)

They will be releasing an actual CD sometime in 2008.

DSL Warns EPS Below Estimates

Of course, I was expecting this. I mean, you can write loans in California and not be in trouble with the "housing crisis" being what it is.

My theory has always been that the 78% short interest will prop the stock up.

Now, unless it gaps down like 10 points or something ridiculous like that, I'll probably add to my 300 share position.

I will not add to my position if it gaps down and then trades down. That will freak me out.

Early morning smokage on tap for DT.

The Colbert Report, "Medium Matters"

Colbert discusses one of my favorite websites. The link is on the right side of the blog.

The Kinks, "Strangers"

Will You Watch Fox Business News?

As most of you know, Fox Business News will debut on cable less than a week from today, on October 15th, just in time for the earnings onslaught.

So, for the new poll, I ask, "Will You Watch Fox Business News?" or will you remain loyal to CNBC?

CNBC is afterall, "anti-business."

God help us.

Fighting Back

I should have just waited until 2pm and the FOMC minutes to trade today.

Early on I wasted time and mental energy shorting strong stocks, like BEN, LVS and UBB. These trades pushed me very close to my loss limit for the day. By 11:00am, I was down $900.

(Listening to the Republican debate while I write this. Mitt Romney and Maria are perfect for each other... nuff said.)

Anyway, my best stock of the day was WNR, but really, that's not saying much because I only managed to make $285 in him. Other winners were ANW, DSL and CMI. The story of the day for me was my percentage of winners to losers. I had 12 winners and only 4 losers. It's too bad I dropped over $1000 on those 4 losers. I could have had a decent day otherwise.

(Ron Paul is the only independent thinker up there. Unfortunately, he doesn't know how to play "the game" and hence, he's unelectable.)

(Stick a fork in John McCain. He has nothing new to say.)

After 2pm, I made money with longs in DSL and ANW. However, take a look at the graph of DSL. It was a mess. I got lucky because I had a limit to get out at $59.79. You would have had a hard time trading this stock with market orders.

Anyway, here's the stats. My neck is killing me... I didn't get up enough today.

P&L, $104
Best, WNR,
$286
Worst, BEN,
-$646

31,300 shares traded.
16 stocks traded, 12 winners, 4 losers.
171 trades.

Virtual Office, $4083. Dow, +121.61, 14,165.34.

Misstrade, $2556 on 6400 shares traded.
Evolution, $747 on 20,200 shares traded.
Momojuicing, $735 on 10,000 shares traded.
Akalawoo, $592 on 10 contracts traded.
Tapeworm, $190 on 4 contracts traded.
Me, $104 on 31,300 shares traded.

OBAT, -$67 on 14,000 shares traded.
Denarii, -$264 on 1800 shares traded.
Bubs, -$510 on 5300 shares traded.

Well, it was a decent day for the VO. However, market volume still completely sucks and that makes me angry.

The FOMC minutes made everyone happy and so, post 2pm, the market ripped. The FED always makes everyone happy. I'm beginning to think that's what they do. It was the 5 year (or "wooden") anniversary of the Bull Market according to CNBC. Yip-di-friggen-woo!

Anyway, I officially have no freaking clue what the market is going to do. However, instead of being happy in my indecision, it's making me kind of nervous. While I realize the game is stacked against the bears, I still can't believe that this current rally is sustainable since we're showing so much strength on so little volume. We'll see.

Again, I invite you to include your P&L numbers in the comments section. Fuck "Elitetrader" and their "nursing home inspired" forums.

NOTE: Fred Thompson looks like a prune. The man has clearly seen too much sun.

Maria Bartiromo Moderating Republican Debate

Did I just hear that correctly?

Oh my... I challenge anyone to provide a better example of "the blind leading the blind."

ROTFLMAOWSPOMLBIHSMTBAA!

That's right.

Lest you've forgotten, see below.

Listen, just because you were good looking 10 years ago doesn't mean you're fit to question the would-be leaders of the free fucking world! Can't we get some real journalist to ask these people questions?

Seriously, our country is fucked. At the same time, I can't wait to see what the Daily Show will say about it... should make for great comedy at least.

Darjeeling Limited

Really looking forward to seeing this, and generally, I don't like watching movies. But I can watch Wes Anderson's flicks over and over again.

One thing I noticed about this trailer is the excellent Kinks song, "Strangers." I've always wondered why it's not a classic.

Email me, Wes. I'll help you out with your soundtracks. We have the same musical taste man! Get me out of this stock trading/blogging world!

Bought 100 CMI @ $136.53

I'm hoping this puppy can break to new highs in the next few days.

After selling out of my LDK long this morning, my swing account currently reads:

300 DSL
100 NMX
100 CMI
-50 JRJC

Meanwhile, I want to remind everyone that I'm not suggesting you buy or sell stocks at these levels. I'm just sharing with you what I do. However, I'm new to this "swing trading" thing and learning... I know nothing.

UPDATE: A "few days" or a "few hours..." Whatever! I'll take it!

Despite New Pact, LDK Still Sucks RULES!

Ugly, ugly, ugly! Trading below $35 pre-market.

SUH-WEEET! I just limited out of 25 shares at $41. News must be hitting.

UPDATE: I just sold 25 more at $43.

Still no news out... but stock is reacting to something. Perhaps the CEO came out and clarified their inventory positions. Only 25 shares remaining of my original 75. This was never a big position for me nor did I expect to hold for long. I just was playing an oversold situation and hoping for a quick bounce...

UPDATE 2: "artha" provided the "real news" in the comments section there. Thank you!

FINAL UPDATE: Sold last 25 shares at $44.30.

LDK Solar Inks New Wafer Supply Pact

Their polysilicon may be shit and their patents are probably worthless, but someone just bought $225 million of their stuff... don't you think they'd check out the quality?

That's not like buying a dime bag in Washington Square Park... more below.

SANTA BARBARA, Calif., Oct 08, 2007 (ASCRIBE NEWS via COMTEX) -- LDK Solar Co., a manufacturer of multicrystalline solar wafers, announced that it has signed a five-year contract to supply multicrystalline solar wafers to Taiwan-based Solartech Energy Corp.

Under the terms of the agreement, pricing is fixed for the first three years. During this period, LDK Solar will deliver multicrystalline solar wafers to Solartech valued at approximately US$224 million with initial delivery commencing in 2008.

"We are pleased to strengthen our long-standing partnership with Solartech, one of our first customers," stated Xiaofeng Peng, Chairman and CEO of LDK Solar. "We continue to selectively allocate our wafer supplies and to build our presence as a global leader in the solar industry."

"This agreement enables us to secure a significant amount of LDK Solar's high-quality wafers as we rapidly increase our production capacity. Solartech plans to double its capacity to 60 MW in November 2007 and to add 50 MW annually over the next two years to reach an annual production capacity of 160 MW in 2009," stated Charles C. Chang, President of Solartech. "We are excited to enter this multi-year supply contract and continue building on our strategic partnership with LDK Solar as we expand our business in the years to come."

Pink Floyd, "Wish You Were Here"

Dedicated to market volume...

Market Snoozefest

Apparently, Christopher Columbus wasn't a trader.

Not even a billion shares traded... what is this, the AMEX?

Anyway, I'm going to make this really short. Today, I was given a gift.

See that big green bar at around 10:00am? Just before that happened I said to my fellow Wallstreakers, something like, "I like that KMT. If it breaks the highs from Friday, I bet it will run." The fact that I was ultimately completely wrong doesn't matter. For 3 minutes, I was right. And I was smart enough to take my profits and run. Now if I had only been smart enough to short it then I could have made some good money.

Anyway, I also made decent money shorting BAP and TSL.

On the downside, my biggest loser of the day was WNR for $66 dollars. I wish I could keep my losers in line like that everyday... it makes your winners count that much more.

Here's the stats:

P&L,
$839
Best, KMT,
$413
Worst, WNR,
-$66

12,000 shares traded.
15 stocks traded, 6 winners, 9 losers.
69 trades.

Covered 50 JRJC @ $35.04.

I took half back. It's looking like it could bounce here for a day or two. If it does but stalls out in the low $40s, I'll reshort. I just didn't like the way it's selling off on low volume and I had some good profits so I took some.
Here's what the swing account looks like:
300 DSL
100 NMX
75 LDK
-50 JRJC

Virtual Office, $1750. Dow, -22.28, 14,043.73.

Me, $839 on 12,000 shares traded.
Evolution, $737 on 30,200 shares traded.
Misstrade, $694 on 2800 shares traded.
Akalawoo, $245 on 9 contracts traded.
OBAT, $128 on 8600 shares traded.
Tapeworm, $45 on 2 contracts traded.
Bubs, no trades. A day at the dentist.
Momojuicing, -$938 on 12,000 shares traded.

I think today may be the lowest volume day of the year. I know it's a holiday, but I'm beginning to feel that we'll never see 2 billion shares again. Damn it's been quiet.

Anyway, not much to say today. The shippers moved a lot, the chinese stocks moved a lot, the solars moved... but really it was tough and choppy.

Not a bad day for the VO all things considered. Let's see if we get some volume back tomorrow.

Looks like we traded about 850,000,000 shares today. Yawn.

Bought LDK @ $38.80

I mean, really, what gives?

A disgruntled guy leaves the company makes all these allegations and the stock loses half it's value? Then Barron's jumps on the bandwagon.

What's an investor to do?

Well, I bought 75 shares at $38.80. That should underscore how confident I am that everything will turn out just fine for this small Chinese solar company.

Or, I'm just guessing it's way oversold and due for some type of small bounce. I'll add to the position if it can show some signs of life. I'll sell when either the sun burns out or they discover the oceans are really made of oil.

So for now my swing account reads:

300 DSL
100 NMX
75 LDK
-100 JRJC
