Interesting, no?

Dennis Kneale Is Cool. Danny Might Be An Idiot Though.

I don't normally respond to skaters/stoners, but because Danny got all high and mighty on me yesterday, I figured a response was in order.

Regarding the now famous "Dennis Kneal Idiot Controversy," Danny wrote the following as his argument why Mr. Kneale didn't read my blog, but rather his blog.

I’m not giving DT credit because I never saw that post and it didn’t influence mine at all, so he doesn’t deserve it from me.

DT’s post was about how Buchanan tore kneale a new one…compared to me, who sacked up, and tore kneale a new one myself.

Although the same picture and topic of discussion is a coincidence. FWIW, image search dennis kneale and you’ll find neither of us scoured hard for that asinine picture of him.

I think he was calling out my post because our traffic trounces his…I am willing to entertain that someone on the street reads the fly who linked me. No offense to DT, but I doubt his note caught the attention of wall st. pundits.

Clearly, Danny feels he's the rockstar over at IBC... "our traffic," HAHAHA!

However, the numbers tell a different, more sobering, story. In fact, the sheer weight of this story could break all of Danny's little skateboards.

Check out the traffic at "the Fly's" old blog.

Very, very impressive.

Okay, now check out the new traffic numbers.

Still very impressive. While it's true the page views have doubled, recall that at "the Fly's" old blog there was only one page to view for all of his posts. Now, you have to open a new page to read each of his posts.

What's telling is the total number of visitors. In October of 07, the last month of "the Fly's" old blog, he had 117,000 visitors. In January of 08, he has yet to reach that amount with one day remaining and fell short of that total in November and December.

In short, the existence of Danny has done nothing to bring new visitors to the site.

So let's talk about page views. Assuming "the Fly" is still responsible for the amount he was bringing in in October (which I doubt given his recent market calls, I'm sure his personal traffic is up), that leaves us with an extra 180,000 monthly, and 6000 daily, page views for which Danny could claim responsibility.

But there's one problem...

Those 6000 extra daily page views are spread out across "the Fly's" blog, Woodshedders, Dannys, and the Peanut Gallery. Since Ducati and "the Rage" are so new to IBC, I won't include them here. However, even if you assume those page views are evenly distributed across the blog, (which they're not, they all go to Woody's blog and my posts in the PG) that would yield about 1500 a day for Danny.

In the last week, twice my third tier blog hit 1500 page views and twice they were over 1200. So Danny's blog is hardly trouncing mine. Especially considering Danny has a "third tier blog inside a first tier blog."

My point? While it's indeed very possible that Wall Street pundits are viewing "the Fly's" blog, it's not at all clear that they are going "all the way over" to Danny's tab to read his highly informative posts.

Danny's "traffic trouncing" argument holds no water. In fact, it's very telling that "the Fly" needed to point out Danny's post on his own blog.

DT wins again.

UPDATE: This whole argument could be moot. Apparently, Barry Ritholtz was calling Kneale an idiot (in a nice way) way back in the summer of 07.

5 Year Chart Of SPX

Just for some perspective. It basically doubled over the last 5 years.

I'm working on my "daily routine" post. I'll have it up by Sunday.

NOTE: I won the Peanut Of The Month Award over at "the Fly's" place. Thanks to all who voted for me.

We traded over a billion shares on the NYSE today!!! w00t!

Anyway, most people didn't trade.

Since I can't offer much market color, I'll give you a quick update on my status.

My paperwork is currently flying in the air to my new company for processing. I will not be up and trading by the 2nd of January. I'm guessing that the 7th is much more probable.

I'm bored. I've been writing a lot, just not market stuff. Next week I have a post all cued up for Trading Goddess... that is, unless things get really desperate at the Peanut Gallery and I need to post it there.

Speaking of the Peanut Gallery, if you have nothing else to do, go vote my posts 5 stars so I can win "top peanut" and get on with 2008 already.

Enjoy your weekend. I don't expect many people to be around this weekend (things are currently very quiet in Blogistan) but I'll throw an Open Thread up just in case you have anything to share.

Wow, well it was a bloody day in the market. But hey, the VO made money so everyone here is happy!

I have to say that being removed from the market, even if during the slower holiday season, kind of sucks. You may have noticed I'm posting less. It's just hard for me to sit and watch stocks and actively monitor the market if I'm not involved.

I watched the news about Bhutto this morning with some unrest. The world doesn't need to get more "extreme." When the moderates are targeted and killed though, extremists fill the vacuum. The assassination of Bhutto is bad news for the world.

Anyway, volume is still very light. We traded under a billion shares again. At least the VIX saw a little pop, up over 20 again.

See you tomorrow. Oh, and don't forget to go give me a nice vote over at the Peanut Gallery.

William "The Greedy" McGuire

I've submitted a new post to the Peanut Gallery. It's about what a greedy dickhead William McGuire is.

Enjoy.

Neutral Milk Hotel, "In The Aeroplane Over The Sea"

If I can figure it out, I'm going to post this in the Peanut Gallery as well...

"The People" Versus Ragin Cajun

As some of you now know, Ragin Cajun (club name "the Rage"), stole from my site this weekend without crediting the artist known as "Secatogue Henry."

I posted "Secatogue's" response over in the Peanut Gallery.

Soon, there will be a contest in the PG to determine if any of its posters are worthy of "gettin' tabbed." Clearly, this theft was a lame attempt by "the Rage" to gain some popularity in the PG.

I am surprised that RC felt the need to "go negative" so early in the race to "get tabbed." Clearly, he understands that picking popular stocks and pasting crazy price targets on them (just because other stocks have made similar moves) won't win him internet glory via his own I.B.C tab.

While this theft is unfortunate it is not surprising coming from "the Gayjun." Sources tell me that in addition to being a serial plagiarizer, RC is also a hater of cute little babies, free market capitalism, and he doesn't "support our troops."

After consulting with "Secatogue" we decided that an intellectual property lawsuit against RC was out of the question. He just doesn't have anything worth suing over. While the fluorescent velvet Elvis poster was tempting on some levels, we let it go.

Instead, RC will get his comeuppance via internet revenge.

UPDATE: "Secatogue Henry" wins again!

The Tier System: First And Second Tier Blogs

I have written a new submission for "the Peanut Gallery."

Go read it and, as always, give it 5 stars.

Tomorrow, I will publish the continuation of the post here.

Clearly, the world must be about to self destruct.

Our resident robot, Misstrade, finds himself at the bottom of the pile today.

I never thought I'd see that.

Anyway, the VO got smoked. It was just one of those days where it was hard to make money. The futures were chopping around and there was no follow through. It just sucked.

Unfortunately, if you recall this is exactly what I expected. I don't think this choppy action is going away anytime too soon either. Might as well start your shopping because unless there's some type of interesting news, the market is going to suck until December 11th.

Go vote on my poll. Also, go vote on my Peanut Gallery post. "the Fly" has promised me $10,000 for each star.

Meanwhile, our new VO member must be some type of idiot for not getting me his numbers on this, his first day.

UPDATE: Sanglucci provided me with his numbers a half hour late... that makes him less of an idiot.

Tellurium Breath

I have written another post for The Peanut Gallery.

Clearly, I deserve to be paid.
