The RO Report, "Last One" Edition

I've written this blog for over 2 years amidst the worst period in my 10-year trading career. It has been a difficult time for me personally but writing has in many ways made it easier.

Dinosaur Trader began as a method for me to connect with other traders as the hybrid market wrecked havoc on my trading style. It ends with me having loads of connections but still struggling with my trading. During these two years I've had some good days and some bad days but throughout I have lacked in confidence and my trading has wanted focus and consistency.

Ultimately trading pays my bills and I need to get that working again at a time when my energy for trading and curiosity regarding the market is on the wane. I'm in the unenviable position of not being in the right frame of mind to trade yet having to trade as I lack alternative avenues of income/skills. This is difficult.

My ideas are often good but my execution is poor, perhaps because I am distracted. Whether or not the blog lends to that distraction I don't know. I haven't put much energy into it since February so I doubt it, but I think some time off will clarify that...

Let's just say that this job is wonderful when things are going well but hellish when they are not... if things are going well for you, be thankful for that, stay humble and always maintain your perspective.

With that, reluctantly, I am putting the blog on the ice for now... if I am going to resuscitate it I will do so in September at the earliest. I have been lucky to have solid readership from the beginning and despite my lack of ambition here for the past few months it seems most of you have hung around.

I appreciate that.

I also appreciate the many bloggers who have linked here and helped my blog grow. When I make my triumphant return in September, I'll need you to get the word out, so keep writing!

Anyway, it was an excellent day in the RO today. Out of 32 traders, 26 were gross positive or 81%. 17 traders made over $1,000 gross and 1 trader lost over $1,000 gross. I was #31 of 32.

"Lucky Pierre" - Trader B, $49.446 on 624k shares traded.

2. Trader A, $41,017 on 231k shares traded.
3. Trader D, $33,519 on 600k shares traded.
4. Trader H*, $9,164 on 47,400 shares traded.
5. Trader 10*, $7,932 on 12,703 shares traded.

"Chambermaid" - Trader R, -$1,953 on 33,800 shares traded.

2. Trader S, -$502 on 19,000 shares traded.
3. Trader 3, -$95 on 6,200 shares traded.
4. Trader &, -$91 on 97,400 shares traded.
5. Trader 1, -$41 on 2,600 shares traded.

BLOG NOTE: Sometime in the next few days I will turn off the comment section. I don't want to have to babysit the blog weeding out the inevitable onslaught of spam. I will still be available via email (check my profile) and don't forget, the RO is always hiring.

Have a good break and I hope to see your blog up and running in the fall. As we all know, traders stumble from time to time but maintaining perspective and not letting the bad patches "break" you is imperative. I am more than certain you will return to high profitability in the near future. Here's to continuing to slug it out. Be well mate.

Thanks for your efforts with the blog...it has become a routine part of my day after the market closes. Good luck, hope to see you back soon.

Good luck on the break DT. The RO still gonna be posted? Trader A take it over! Love seeing daily results.

been following this blog for the RO mainly for a while now... i have to say, almost everytime u have a dry spell, u want to quit this blog... i have to say, it's voyeuristic almost, because i bet 99% of the people that come on here daily, do so just to see how they stack up against the competition and other traders, did they have just as bad a day, or did they beat other traders...
DT you have some good posts, but most people don't really care what u have to say, just the numbers.

Wish u luck, but must say, you are very weak and a quitter.

Charlie G. said...

maybe you will pull a Favre and we'll see you in July.

say what will you will about DT, but nothing is weaker than an Anon blog comment taking a cheap shot.

will miss the RO and your posts.

When I say DT is a Phoenix, I mean it in a very positive way. He always has, and always will, bounce back and rise again. It is in our blood.

I never thought it would suck so much to know what penultimate means. I was wondering if you were giving up, but it turns out you are just taking some time off the blog. That's smart. Do whatever you need, and all your readers will be back when you are ready.

Buy index call tomorrow open, you will change your mind within one week, seriously!

Anonymous said...

just sit behind Trader A and watch his trading for a week, you will be there.

Gonna miss you. This blog has become one of my daily routines. The RO report is great, but your comments on the RO report are even better. I guess i'll just reread your history posts. That's some good shiz.

Believe this or not, your blog has nothing to do with your trading satisfaction.

luv,

Nevertheless, I'm commemorating your blog leave with a special post in your honor; moreover, this blog post of mine may receive the blog trading post of the year...j/k

Dude, Dinosaur Trader - there is only one possible outcome; success. Get that other shit outta your head, that was put in like the malignant software it is, designed to keep you in endless servitude to those running & ruining the show. The outcome is certain; the timing, the path is up to each one of us. One day, one step, brick by brick by brick .. it will gain its own (unstoppable) momentum, through the power of determined spirit, a fragment of Creation itself, that we are all green shoots thereof.

We are all, indeud, created equal, in that respect.

I don't know why but I think that it's good decision to put blogging on pause. It's been nice ride with you so far, take care DT.

DT,
Your blog will be missed, but sometimes focus has to come first, so we will all understand.

You were one of the first blogs to link to me when I started out and for that I will always be grateful.

You have an open forum to discuss whatever you want to get off your chest on TRB, anytime you feel the urge to let it fly.

Thanks again, I look forward to your return!

Going to really miss reading your blog DT, it's become an enjoyable part of my daily routine in-between trades.

But you have to know what works for you, and do it, so if you feel you need a break from blogging then you obviously need to do that.

All the very best to you and your trading, and looking forward to your coming back here soon !!!

DT - You better finish your trading career biography. Don't leave us hanging! You may feel like your a shitty trader, but you can definitely spin prose. Love reading your vignettes. Stay healthy. See you in September....

Hey DT,

Good luck out there.

blog or no blog, here's a quote from Roy W. Longstreet that I find inspiring in my own quest to improve as a trader.

"The most glorious moments of one's life come when, out of a period of correcting mistakes, one finds a new interest in life as a trader and a promise of future achievments."

ps I suggest that when you do return you stop the RO updates because it saps the most of your energies and isn't actually helpful, although it keeps the voyeurs coming back every day.

I feel as though I'm losing a friend. Goodbye DT.

Hi DT,

I love your blog and have been reading it for several years. Please don't get me wrong but I think you may be blaming circumstances but not yourself for lack of expected results.
Please treat trading as a serious business and pay more attention to how you are trading.
Going to surfing / answering door bells / working in the garden during business hours might have something to do with your results.
Just a friendly advise stay in your trading room and stay focused. Don't take any trade without a plan or understanding the risk/reward.
I wish you good luck in your trading and hope you will come back before Sept.

Thanks for the joy DT. You're a great writer and trader. I'll see you on the flip side.

Oh yeah, when you do come back I hope you block all the anonymous ass-holes with their negative comments. I love what you write. If I didn't I wouldn't come here. The RO numbers are just a bonus. So fuck you assholes that don't like it. You don't have to come here.

God Bless

Best of luck to you DT in all you do. I'm sure you'll sort out what you need to and get back to sucessful trading very soon. Just remember that this market has been very frustrating for most traders including myself.

noticed you seemed to lose your mojo when obama won - coincidence. dont have anywhere to focus your anger. i agree w/ above guy- surfing, yardwork, distractions- of course your head is not in the game. you should be in an office

DT from what I have read in your blog I think you are a very good trader. You will get it back. When things are not working change is required. Even a change like this blogging hiatus can do the trick.

As good a trader as you are I think you are an even better writer.

Except for the F bombs. :)

Best of luck to you -- this has been such an entertaining blog during some unusual markets. Thank you for all of the time you put into it!

DT, you're a good man. Come back stronger! I still think the RO is bad for you. These guys make or lose 10-20grand a day without batting an eyelid. What's their trading equity like? Half a million bucks? Ditch the RO and get back to posting your dailies.

The tone of your writing is that of a warrior who fought many tough battles, survived but needs a nice long siesta.
Dt, i really have a special place in my heart for you and your blog. You were one of the first guys i met over on wallstreak back in early 2007 and to be honest i had no idea what a 'blog' was. It was you and pinoy who introduced me to blog world and for that i am eternally thankful. you are truly a good man and i consider you a great friend as you have always been very good to me.
i love ya DT and the dinosaurtrader link will NEVER leave my blogroll.

peace brother.
