Weekend Open Thread

Feel free to discuss anything.

Also, I've added a game to the open thread. My friends and I often play this game, Wise and Otherwise, when we take vacations together. It works like this... someone picks a card from a deck and reads one of the sayings off of the card. The other players have to finish the saying. The player who fools the most people into thinking that their saying is correct, wins the most points that round.

Come back Sunday night and vote for the saying that you think is correct.

So, here's the saying you have to complete via the comments section.

There's an old Swedish saying,
One should choose one's bedmate...

Okay, and throughout the weekend I'll update this thread with some interesting links. Also, feel free to add your own via the comments section.

1. HPT has an excellent video of Ron Paul up at his site. A Republican I actually like and would consider voting for.

2. Check out this Indian condom PSA.

3. Sure, Chinese stocks may run into the Olympics, but once people see how freaking polluted the place is, perhaps they'll rethink their investments... don't expect many new world records, that's for sure.

4. Completely awful photography, courtesy of the Wall Street Fighter. While you're there, make sure to search out his post on things that were cool in 1977 but would get your ass kicked in 2007. Hilarious, original stuff.

5. Words of wisdom, from Bubs... or, at least, plagurized by Bubs...

neweq,

While that's an interesting way to end that particular Swedish saying, I don't think you're going to fool many people.

No points for newequity!

Have a nice weekend,

I just started a blog myself, tonight actually. Check it out at http://www.portfoliomeltup.com/ and give me some feedback.

Also if anyone wants to trade links, give me a shout.

richard,

I'm surprised after all the incendiary commentary about MtM that the departure of tapeworm created that you weren't over here defending the honor of your blog sooner.

I especially liked the riot scene with the hundreds of MtM posters... c'mon, that was good stuff!

jay,

I like the idea of calling out pundits. I'm a big fan of pointing out CNBC stupidity. If someone kept a scorecard of what the pundits said and when, it'd be great.

Good luck,

anything goes,

I haven't clicked through your site yet for 2 reasons:

1. your name
2. your pornstar-esque picture.

Those 2 things combined would make most people nervous... this is the internet afterall.

In all seriousness, it looks like you have a nice site. As for "needing" or "wanting" a new monitor, I'm actually in the same boat. I have these old school monitors from the year 2000 that throw off heat and radiation like nothing else. However, they keep my office warm in the winter.

Reading these responses, I think you can tell who the married ones are here. :)

After enjoying the scenery in North Jersey last weekend, I have made my way down to the sunny, 80 degree weather in Destin, Florida. Who knew the beach could be so busy in November?

... carefully, because if you end up killing the bitch you can't choose your cellmate.

ehh... I can't defend honor that isn't there. Plus I was embarrassed since you pointed out it's just a "virtual" office, I'm not sure whose place we destroyed in the riots. I guess we overreacted.

Dinosaur Trader said...

richard, that last one was a doozy!

and artha, credit for the "ja?" that's bound to throw a few people off.

monster surf here today... i didn't even bother. I saw a few lunatics out in the water but seriously, they must have had death-wishes.

i came up with a new one...

there's an old swedish saying, one should choose one's bedmate and ragin's blog is gay.

DT: On the day you made $25 grand, I was vacationing and had to read about your glory on my Treo. Do you know how much that costed me? $12! You never would have known this unless you use a wireless device, but the front page of your blog added up to 250 kilo bytes.

Dinosaur Trader said...

Win,

Does that mean it takes too long to load or something? Like, Blogger sucks?

Anyway, I could use another of those before the year is out. Due to my awful performance at the beginning of the year I'm still not meeting the family expenses for the year to the tune of $29 grand.

Or, I could keep making 2gs a day and get there that way too... one can hope!

-DT

wincity said...

Didn't take that long to load, but I had to pay 5 cents per kilo. At home, my browser never tells me how big a web page is, but my Treo shows the total bytes for every page. I was very surprised by the size of your page.

If not for the lunch money I'm making almost daily from ANW, I'd demand a reimbursement from you.

All my great posts are cut and paste, if I came up with my own words of wisdom we all would be in trouble.

One should chose one's bedmate...
bedmates, why limit yourself to only 1?

I know I don't need another plug but be sure to check out my "potential" contest. I'm going to be giving away next months blog earnings. Would like some input on what I should do for the contest.

DT,

Do you have a cushion fund set aside to cover family expenses in lean times? Does your company provide benefits such as health insurance and retirement plans?

I have 2 friends who are full time traders but their wives work in corporate so they have the health benefits, 401Ks, and the spousal income to fall back on. Just curious how it works in your case.

BTW, I haven't stopped laughing after reading your comments to "ag". You have a wicked sense of humour indeed, and fortunately he appears to be good natured about it.

One should choose one's bedmate...like choosing a cantelope-firm and yet not rotten in the core.

Dinosaur Trader said...

artha,

We're trading "without a net" as it were. Judy's current full time job is to spend as much of her time as possible with our daughter. The only benefits that come with that job are good strong bonds, that will hopefully pay us off down the line.

I have a decent amount socked away, but I get very nervous when I have to tap it as I have this year. Things have turned around pretty nicely for me though since July, so hopefully the darkest days are behind me and I can go back to not worrying about my job.

Dinosaur Trader said...

Okay, now for the full saying.

Thanks all for "playing" I'll do this again next weekend. However, any ideas on how we can make it more interactive? Perhaps the day to add your blurb is on Saturday and then Sunday everyone votes for which they think is the right one...

There's an old Swedish saying,
One should choose one's bedmate while it is daylight.

aren't there about six months of 24-hour daylight in Sweden? That's too much time for choosing and not enough time for test-driving.
