2008 Presidential Debate Open Thread
Barack Obama and John McCain duke it out in, what I'm calling, the "Thrississippi in Mississippi."
-John McCain, pictured here in a bathing "costume," circa 1907.
-Barack Obama. Not a smart guy; not an elitist. Just a regular guy who likes to bowl.
Here's one clip I found from the debate. I'll post more as they become available.

Hey look, I missed the first hour too. Why are they doing this on a Friday night?

Hands down, lamest "open thread" in the history of the Internets.
Off to have a beer in celebration of the third-tier.

who the hell holds an open thread on friday night and expects people...dont listen to me im dfrunk
Obama and McCain are punks. No eye contact, too much agreeing, and no clear answers. I would have like to see someone get their head ripped off.
It was a disappointment.
I vote for Fly '08
Indeed, Fly in 08.
He needs to come up with a platform though.

This was one of the worst debates I have ever had the stomach to sit through. And the pundits were completely lost -- even the smarter variety on PBS offered nothing but vapid "fair and balanced" palaver. WTF? Obama had so many opportunities to call McCain out on foreign policy. So many that now I am beginning to wonder if he really knows how much of a BS artist McCain is. He may have been a pilot. He may have been a POW. He may be a "hero". But that obviously doensn't make him qualified to define national security strategy. And as far as military strategy goes, that is not the provence of a president. So that was a moot fucking point...yet the two of them fell all over themselves trying to prove they could converse intelligently on the matter. And they completely dodged the financial crisis and fiscal policy going forward on a broader range of issues. WTF?
And did anyone see that interview Couric did with Palin? Fuck. What the hell is going on in this country? How can anyone think she is qualified now? And yet her numbers are holding steady among the feckless, farting masses. It's telling that even conservative Republicans -- David Brooks, George Will, Kathleen Parker -- are beginning to question the McCain campaign's wisdom on this choice. I hope the tactic blows up in the RP's face.
Note: I'm neither liberal nor conservative. Just really pissed that we can't get a true statesman to run for president. Or maybe that we could never elect a true statesman for president, given the current state of the body politic in this country.
Fuck it. The American people think everything is a fucking TV show. So let's just have the elections on WWE night or some shit like that. Let's give them what they really want and deserve.
I'm moving to Belize.
Or just put them on fucking America's Got Talent and let people call in to vote.
I wish I could have watched it, but it's a Friday night. Terrible time to have something that should be so important.
Sorry about the thread...
LT,
Good to see you, it's been awhile. I'll have to find the debate and post it. I didn't see enough of it to comment on it intelligently.
CP,
I bet that would definitely lead to greater participation in the "democracy," as sad as that sounds.
