Remember, this is an edited list from Yahoo Finance. There are more stocks that are reporting earnings tomorrow, they're probably just shitty stocks.

Also, if you see I'm missing a good stock, please feel free to fill me in via the comments section. Hundreds of you are reading this yet you're all creepy lurker types...

The Zombies, "This Will Be Our Year"

Classic.

A Good Day Of Stock Trading

The goodness started early. For the first time in a long while, I entered some orders at the open and they worked.

At the open, I got short FED because of the weakness in CFC and CF because of the weakness in TNH.

This is the way I used to trade. Find the stock with news or volatility and trade a related stock that will move, but won't be as volatile and, in theory, less dangerous.

As it turned out, I covered both stocks early. But that's fine because what's important is that both trades were profitable and got me started off. I'm not looking to make perfect trades, I'm looking to make money.

Anyway, the next stock I got short was one of my recent favorites, BTJ.

I short him because all of the oils were coming off hard and he's been a real momentum play. With momentum getting slapped marketwide, I figured it was only a matter of time before BTJ got shelled as well. This stock isn't for everyone, that's for sure. The spreads are wide and it can get spiky. Worse still, it trades on the (enter scary music here)AMEX... but, it was my best stock of the day as I made $551 in the bastard.

Anyway, I've started to feel excited about trading again... I mean, I'm still down on the month due largely to my blowup last Tuesday, but things still seem to be getting better. It's all mental. Hopefully, I will be able to write intelligently about this all in the near future. I'll be able to look back with some perspective on "the slump" and be done with it.

We'll see.

If there's one thing that has been an awful hallmark of this particular slump it's that when I start to feel confident I get smoked all over again. The good news is that I've set very tight loss limits with my company so right now, it's impossible for me to blowup. I think that's been somewhat freeing psychologically. Knowing that if I lose a certain amount I will not be able to place orders has been a great incentive not to screw up too badly (so I can keep trading) but its also insulated me from massive losses that will kill my confidence (not to mention my P&L).

Looking forward to the rest of the week.

Here's the stats:
P&L, $2091
Best, BTJ, $551
Worst, CFC, -$109

shares traded, 29,000
17 stocks traded, 11 winners, 6 losers
139 total trades

Virtual Office, $6108. Dow, -226.14, 13717.28.

Misstrade, $3018 on 5200 shares traded.
Me, $2093 on 29,000 shares traded.
Evolution, $901 on 71,200 shares traded.
Bubs, $101 on 400 shares traded.
OBAT, $5 on 5800 shares traded.
Denarii, -$10 on 1000 shares traded.

Well, with the markets predicting the end of the world tomorrow, things were pretty interesting today. However Bob Pisani and Dylan Ratigan are saying the bottom is in... lol!

I mean, what's great is that the market sold off over 200 points and it really doesn't dent the indexes too much. We're only 250 points away from 14,000 still. Remember that? Dow 14,000? Imagine how much fun we could have if we got some real volatility back?

Anyway, as I stated in an earlier post, this whole week should be interesting and good for trade.

AMZN after the close today, AAPL after the close tomorrow... get out your hard hats!

UPDATE: Market reacting positively to AMZN earnings early on...

NOTE: My daily post will be later this evening.

Freaky Hybrid Trade Of The Day, CNH!

Just take a quick look at the graph below.

See that first 15 minutes? That's freaky... and that's the hybrid market for you. There is nothing "orderly" about that market.

That said, it's one of my best stocks on the day, but still... it's hard to trade the market with any type of confidence when there are these wild illiquid moves on 100-share prints.

Go visit Ray over at Exchanges and tell him to tell his "hybrid builders" to fix this stuff. Tell him the Dinosaur sent you, but please be polite.

Perhaps if the NYSE hears from more traders they'll have more incentive to fix trades like this.

Indexes Flatlining

After a crazy morning of trade, the market has quieted down here in the middle of the day.

Lots of stocks moved early... the solars, the fertilizers, the oils.... MVIS.

Anyway, I'm basically on the sidelines right now, watching and waiting.

I'd say a bounce back to flat would be nice, but I'm not hopeful as the internals are ugly here. Still, volatility entering the market is a good thing if you like to trade. If the market wants to go to 14,000 again I'm good with that. If it wants to go to 12,000 I'm okay with that too.

The rest of the week could be interesting. Loads of earnings (which I'll list here) and also a few important economic releases. Should be an exciting end to July just in time for the market to really suck in August.

And for the weekend, a probable "weekend blogger"! That's right. We're just setting up the terms of the deal. I'm offering him millions of Dinosaur Trader shares. I mean it's only a matter of time before ABC buys this site.

Of course, with a float of 64 billion, a few million Dinosaur Trader shares won't be worth much, but still, it's something.

MVIS Inks Deal With Motorola

Thanks to "the Fly" for getting me involved with this gem at $4.05.

Of course, MVIS will have to print $60 to make up for the horrendous year I'm having, but $6 is a good start.

Here's the link to the press release.

Stock Earnings 07/24/07

The following is a "cloud" of companies reporting earnings after the close Monday or sometime during the day on Tuesday.

I got this "cloud" from Yahoo Finance. However, I edit it down substantially. Also, Yahoo Finance isn't perfect in this regard. Like, they had TASR reporting Tuesday when in fact, they reported today... In other words, there could be mistakes on this list. Blame Yahoo or, Canada.

If a stock is under $10 or has really low volume, it would not be included in my stock earnings "cloud". I only place stocks in this "cloud" that might be worth watching to trade. This "cloud" does not represent any type of recommendation to buy or sell these stocks, it's just a "cloud" of stocks that could move (up or down) when they report earnings Tuesday.

The Grateful Dead, "St. Stephen"

Virtual Office, $1702. Dow, +92.34, 13943.42.

HPT, $1000 on 46 contracts traded.
Misstrade, $410 on 9000 shares traded.
Me, $194 on 18,400 shares traded.
OBAT, $138 on 2200 shares traded.
Denarri, $40 on 3000 shares traded.
Bubs, -$80 on 1000 shares traded.

I think Bubs had it right when he described today as a "chop fest".

Like I said in my daily post, it's an odd day when the market is up over 90 points yet it feels like you want to be short all day. On the NYSE, decliners led advancers. It was a narrow, light volume rally. Not fun for traders but at least we suffered no disasters.

Maybe it was better for the futures traders out there... HPT had a nice day.

This week is rather heavy on earnings reports. Get your sleep.

Tuesday, Wednesday, and especially Thursday will give you plenty of reports to sift through. I'll post lists of all the stocks reporting on my site. Hopefully, this makes your research a little easier.

A Case Of The Blahs

For a day when the market is up over a 100 points (currently, anyway) I really had no fun. In fact, for all the bluster showing up on the indexes, I made my good trades on the short side.

One in particular stands out. It was really the only good trade I had today. That was a short in WFT.

I got short a small position when the stock broke 58.70 at around 10:30 and then added when it broke 58.50. I covered most below 58.10 and net a little over $600 in the trade.

This trade came at a very important time of the day for me because up until that trade, I had no winners. Not one. I had traded 7 stocks and lost in them all. Most of my losers were under $100 except for SFL which was going nowhere... I shouldn't have been trading him. But I did... so, I got chopped and was down over $300 in him. So with a bunch of small losers and SFL, I was about to hit my loss limit of $500.

So WFT worked out and gave me a little boost of confidence for having a turnaround day.

In the end, I didn't do too much after that trade and make only $194 for the day. For now, I'll take it. At least the slide from Friday was stopped in it's tracks.

Perhaps tomorrow will offer more opportunity.

NOTE : I will post a list of the stocks with earnings for tomorrow like I did today. Tomorrow's list of companies announcing earnings is fairly substantial, with over 75 names making my list.

Here's the stats:

P&L, $194
Best, WFT,
$634
Worst, SFL,
-$247

shares traded, 18,400 (churning action)
stocks traded, 11, 4 winners, 7 losers
total trades, 97

Deerhoof, "+81"

Very catchy.

Virtual Office, -$1264. Dow, -151.04, 13849.45.

HPT, $125 on 4 contracts traded.
OBAT, $24 on 6400 shares traded.
Denarii, $5 on 84 shares traded.
Bubs, no trades.
Misstrade, -$692 on 2000 shares traded.
Me, -$726 on 11,200 shares traded.

Well, you can read my brief story on the day below this post. It was just not the day to be buying stocks.

Maybe it wasn't an easy day to be selling stocks either! No money was really made today, and I'm not taking away from the guys who were green. It's just odd that on a day when the market moved so much that no one was able to pull some money from it.

Well, I hope everyone has a restful weekend. During earnings season were all probably at our desks too much. Get outside and have some fun.

Washed Out

Well, I got washed out early today, so unfortunately, I'm writing this post before I even get a chance to post the Virtual Office.

I must say, it's strange being on the sidelines while I watch the market reverse. And I'm pissed about it too, but I realize that I'm just angry at myself for letting myself get chopped too much this morning.

It was clear early that stocks weren't going up. Yet, for some reason, I kept looking on the long side. I bought, LNN, VMI, SFL and CF. Even more frustrating, when I finally decided to get short, I short AGU, NOV and WNR and these stocks squeezed me out.

So what I'm doing here by watching this reversal is taking my medicine. It really sucks too, but I think it's the best thing I've done in awhile. I'm out of the market and watching it. The reason why I'm out is because I'm following my rules.

Unfortunately, there was a miscommunication with my company. You'll recall that I asked them to shut me down if I went down $500 on the day. They thought I said, $1000. So I end up losing -$726 today.

Ah well. Overall it was a good week. It stinks to end this way but I'm being forced to learn a lesson and hopefully that helps me in the long run.

Enjoy your weekend.

Here's the stats:

P&L, -$726
Best, MA, $139
Worst, WNR, -$344

shares traded, 11,200
10 stocks traded, 3 winners, 7 losers
total trades, 65

The Aislers Set, "Hit The Snow"

Shipping Is En Fuego

I guess that's kind of a no-brainer with oil at $76 a barrel, huh?

Anyway, that was the story of the day although that wasn't clear to me at the open.

At the open, I was paying attention to "the Fly" pick VMI and I was looking for a quick pop in LNN (they are competitors) due to the strength of the earnings in VMI. I made a quick half point in LNN and moved on. Later, I would buy back and make another 20 cents, but in the morning it was a quick play for me.

I then got involved in a number of bad trades. I hate days like today, when the market gaps up and then immediately flatlines or heads lower. I'm feeling all bullish at the open and then you get all these failed trades. It's frustrating because you get long, you look at the indexes and they're all up, but you're losing money.

My worst trade at this point came in UBB. I was really watching it to hold the $130 level after the gap up in the morning.

I felt confident it would and I was actually afraid it wasn't going to pull all the way back down to $130, so I put limits in at $130.40 to buy some. I was filled and watched the stock sink lower. When it broke $130, I sold, taking a .40 loss on 300 shares. But here I got involved with some of my bad thought patterns. I reexamined the 15-minute graph, and was like, "Oh yeah, support wasn't at $130, it's really at $129.60 or so" and with this newly minted confidence, I bought again. And, I lost again. Then, I made the "support" at $129.40 and you can see what happened. I sold near the low of the day, right around $129.

Eventually, the stock rebounded. Actually, it bounced right after I sold and I was so angry that I thought hard about injuring my cat. I didn't want to kill the cat, but I thought about snapping a rubber-band at him or something... but I didn't.

Instead I moved onto the shippers. "Stewie" and "johnson" over at Wallstreak were watching DRYS and GNK which were both up strong and ripping. So I bought into a couple of the shippers that trade on the NYSE, EXM and SFL.

SFL is not a very volatile stock, so I felt comfortable buying a larger position than I've been trading with lately. I picked up 800 shares right around $30 a share. After a brief correction, the stock moved smartly up, mirroring the strength in the rest of the sector. I sold some in the $30.35 area, but held the rest and ended up netting over a half point in the trade.

This was good for me mentally for a couple of reasons. When things were good, 800 shares was the way I liked to start positions. It was nice to get back to that number of shares and have a trade work in my favor. Felt like the old days, even if it was just for a half point.

Anyway, I'm very happy with the way I've rebounded after the disaster I had from last Tuesday. If I can keep this up for the rest of the month, I should be in a good mental state heading into the vacation month, August. I've also noticed that I'm kind of settling in with making just under 100 trades a day (50 trades, open and shut) and trading around 15,000 shares. I think this consistency in my raw numbers is a good sign, although I don't know why.

Here's the stats:

P&L, $464
Best, SFL, $433
Worst, UBB, -$399

shares traded, 15,200
12 stocks traded, 7 positive, 5 negative
total trades, 92
