Morning Stock Market Links
- Rio Tinto posts solid earnings making a higher bid by BHP a possibility.
- The FED has cut like lunatics, yet credit spreads continue to widen. This is bad.
- What was Dinosaur sex like?
- Obama is leaving Hillary behind, focusing on McCain.
- Could you spend $300 million in two weeks?
- I had to link this to prove there are people named "Jerker" who get ahead in the world. Previously, I wouldn't have thought this possible.
And here is a nice little video on Obamanomics. Remember, they only discuss the tax hike here (on the rich) but the entire middle and lower class would receive cuts. I'll have to read more about this... a 12% hike on people over $100,000 kind of bothers me, a lot.

DT, since my comment from an early post didn't make it for some reason, I'll post it here. In the early post I never said Bush's speeches were impressive, they just appealed in an emotional way (talking the sweet talk). Like "we're gonna get'em and make them pay" stuff like that. Obama talks in a similar way. I thought the Clinton years were one of the best times in the nation's history but I guess enough people don't remember or don't care. He'll be good for easing and putting the rest to the long standing racial tensions in the country but unfortunately right now the country needs someone that can tackle the economic and foreign policy issues head on.
JJ,
You posted a comment that didn't show up? My site is a little botched right now... blogger is all messed up. I can't even spell check my posts, so I'm sorry about that.
I think Obama will be fine on the foreign policy issues. He says he has no problem talking directly to the leaders of countries that we consider our "enemies" and I think that's a far stronger policy than our current one.
I need to do more HW on his economic policy. I'm not a fan of raising taxes... I'd rather they redistribute the money they already have in the coffers.
It'll be a good debate to have over the next 8 months and I look forward to your comments.

What the fuck kind of economic policy did you expect from a (near) communist?
I swear to God -- and this is wholly serious -- I cannot for the life of me understand relatively intelligent people who (seem to?) understand simple economics, and yet seem enthused about backing socialists for public office.
I mean, what the fuck do you people need, a personal tutorial on economic world history or something? It's not that fucking difficult-- capital begets investment, which begets growth. Any hindrance to that and you have inefficiencies in the system which redound forcibly upon the lowest common denominators involved -- in this case, the poor that the fucking socialist pretend to want to help.
Incredibly frustrating!
Jake,
Your tone is somewhat abrasive.
People disagree. I mean, I still can't believe all the neocons got us into Iraq, but there are still plenty of "idiots" out there who talk that up!
And think about all that wasted money. Talk about a failed economic policy. Sure, you may have lower tax rates under Bush, but all of those taxes are being spent in Iraq. I'd rather pay higher taxes and have them go to this country and our infrastructure, thanks.

Jake, stick to trading and "fucktard" quips. It's pretty clear you understand as much about capitalism as you do about socialism. Your demagoguery only insults your own intelligence. (Or so I would like to believe....)
Suck it up man -- you're guy is gonna lose this election anyway.
Lonely trader -- fuck yourself, commie.
That's my response to your ad hom response. As usual, socialist backers "got nothin'."

Dino -- you are mixing apples and oranges. Getting us into a war -- ostensibly for defensive reasons, but we can argue about it -- is not what we were talking about. We were talking about economics, how they work, and how they can screw poor people over if they are mishandled by well meaning, but semi-retared government officials.
Government should stay the hell out of the economy to the greatest extent possible. In other words, outside making sure that contracts are honored and the rule of law enforced, they should back the hell off trying to engineer anything. There is no example in recorded history where they haven't fucked up trying to "help."
And sure, the socialists might win this one-- and maybe they should, just to remind people of how bad the seventies really were when the command and control morons were in power (and I include Nixon & Ford in that mix, btw)-- but you should not be joining the bozo "lonely trader" in abetting the damage to your own country.

Jake,
Once the nominees are set, I would like to have a nice discussion here about the specifics of their economic plans (hopefully without all the namecalling) because I'm interested and open-minded about politics.
I think that calling Obama a "commie" won't really get our discussion moving.
Overall, I agree with most of your second post, the government fucks stuff up when they get involved too much. However, I disagree that a discussion of where our taxes are allocated (the war) is out of place when we're discussing presidential candidate's economic plans.

Jake: My 'ad hom' trumps your straw man. And at least I know enough to know that socialism does not exist in the US -- except in the form of marginalized movements with tacky rags, and the oddball Senator from Vermont.
If you think our economy is centrally planned, and that our property and wealth are distributed in the way a socialist country would, you're nucking futs.
Man, you don't know what socialism is! Just admit it!
Jake, in addition to reading up on socialism, I suggest you also read up on "straw man".
