Barack Obama Victory Speech, South Carolina

It's a 17 minute speech. If you can't watch the full thing, you can start it from the 4 minute, 10 minute, or 13 minute marks. If you really have no time at all, at least watch the last minute and a half or so...

Watched some of it. A lot of hype. Yes we can. Still, I would vote for Obama over all the others.

PS- Comments back up for people with ID's

HPT,

Good move.

Listen, I'm as cynical as they come, but after the last 8 years hopeful hype sounds good to me.

Besides, there's absolutely no one else to vote for if you believe, like I do, that political dynastys are unAmerican.

Nice speech if you like paying taxes.

Dinosaur Trader said...

cheese,

Most of your taxes are currently going to Iraq. I don't think taxes will be raised, they'll just be redistributed out of Iraq.

We need to improve our school system, not theirs.

Thank Bush for spending a trillion of our taxes in Iraq.

Dude, he has his own baggage. If he is elected, watch what happens. In absolute terms, he is really no different than either HC or JE...except that his wife is hotter. So we'll still have to suffer from the apathy of a body politic that is rotten no matter who takes office -- but I can check out Michelle in her smart business chic. Damn that girl's got legs.

Nevermind that in his first term as Senator at the national level, he missed something like 40% of the votes. I can forgive him that sin. After all, HC missed something between 20% and 30%, I think. Still, I also wonder what the fu#& he thought his job really was. Was it to write a book? Stump for the Prez Prize?

He talks a good game, to be sure, but is there really any more substance to him than anyone else in the DP? I very much doubt it.

The choice in my mind is, do I want a woman or a black man running this country? And that, in and of itself, is an extraordinary question. I frankly wouldn't mind if either one of them won -- it's about time the US broke through this barrier and I think we're more than ready.

Can this change the machine that the last regime set in motion? I doubt it. Can this change the fear and anger that I observe over here in the Middle East? Absolutely not -- not in four or eight years, anyway. The real damage can't be solved by electing a new president.

My two cents...and even those are worth a less than this time last year.

I would be willing to bet that if Obama wins our taxes WILL be raised.

Suck it up Jawbreaker. Or move to the Dominican Republic.

No, shit-for-brains...I'm a military officer trying to keep our boys and girls alive in the midst of one of teh greatest foreign policy coups in our nation's short history, while you sit on your overweight, fast-food-eating carcass of an arse in the US and act all indignant and patriotic and all that blah.

It's ignorant citizens like you who let our politicians run afoul of international law and trash our credibility abroad, and then vote for them again so they can finish the job. And it's citizens like you who put your little red, white and blue flags on your big shiny SUVs, while carefully placing your "No Dogs, Sailors or Soldiers on the Grass" sign on your front lawns.

And your comment about beheadings is putting the cart before the horse, I'm afraid.

You make me sick. I hate the fact that I swore an oath to defend and die for you.

DT, sorry for the profanity...but not for the rant. It is not my intention to degrade the otherwise excellent thing you have going here. Some perspectives make enormous demands on my personality.

Nice comments DT. JFK's daughter officially endorsed Obama today in the NYT. I posted the link on my site.

For all those who stoop the intellectually lazy "higher taxes" cliche, I suggest you look at our federal deficit since Bush took office 8 yrs ago. Where is the fiscal responsibility you were promised?.. And I'm not even beginning to start up about Iraq.

Holy cow, I play a rousing game of "Old Maid" with my daughter and by the time I come back to my blog, it's like WWIII.

I welcome the give and take, but let's not get personal. I think a cold pint is in order for sure.

Thanks to both of you for your service. We have a close friend who is waiting to fly out of Iraq at this minute. We've spent a good amount of time with his wife these last months and it's hard on everyone who has to go through it. I couldn't imagine it myself... especially for those who have children.

Getting back to Obama, as I think about it, I now agree with "fish." Obama/Edwards would get hit on the experience thing, especially from a ticket headed by McCain... Obama/Biden is more balanced in that regard.

Take a deep breath everyone.

DT-
Sorry to vaporize my comments. It's in nobody's interests for 2 military officers to be going at each other on a blog.

We're all in this together, and hopefully the next Presidency will bring better days for all of us.

Cheese,

It's all good. Like you said, over a cold pint everybody would be friends.

I think we all agree that Hillary sucks. :)

I dont get the "Suck it up comment" I pay whatever my tax rate is period but IMO they are going higher. Just have to make more money trading. BTW, iam pretty sure that futures traders actually pay a lower overall rate. Maybe someone can confirm that.

I will throw my two cents in. Showing my age, this will probably be the first Presidential election I will not vote if in fact the people who get nominated are the ones I suspect get nominated. I have voted in every National, State and local election since McGovern/Nixon in 1972. Even when I was out of town for some crappy local election I made sure to get an absentee ballot. I have voted for Democrats and Republicans, but what a group of sorry assed people who are left now to be nominated.
