Weekend Open Thread

I was going to take the wind out of Ragin's sails by posting the picture that I'll be using as my avatar next week, but it's just too awful. So it's Halloween weekend, I figured I'd post a topical picture instead.

Bats are amazing creatures that deserve your respect and protection. Perhaps I'll write a post about them in the future. For now, enjoy that "grade-schoolesque" picture of that brown bat and click the link to learn more.

Okay, so you know the drill. Comment away. Spam me with your blog address whatever... just leave something interesting in the comment section for all to enjoy. Did you have a really good week? Tell us, we're all ears. Maybe your neighborhood caught fire... give us some idea of what that's like. Evacuee? Have a lot of time on your hands? Have at it...

Enjoy the weekend.

UPDATE: For "Noisy" trapped in some warehouse, here's my favorite Yo La Tengo song of all time.

Time on my hands is exactly what I have this weekend.

I live in Georgia, but I am currently in Sterling Hills (Forest?), NY, just north of Mahwah, NJ, performing a disaster recovery test for my company.

56-hour time window started at noon Friday. Restoring data, surfing the net, restoring data, surfing the net - rinse and repeat all weekend. Hopefully we will be able to grab a few zzzz's at some point tonight.

Sounds thrilling, no?

Disaster recovery? Like, if there's a hurricane that knocks out your companies servers or something?

It does sound a little monotonous. We seem to share music taste, so you can go to my imeem profile and listen to the "golden smash hits" to pass the time.

I took it off the blog because I thought it might be slowing it down.

Meanwhile, you're not getting nice weather. However, are they even letting you out? I picture you in a small unadorned office under flourescent lights clacking away at keyboards while machines hum hearby.

Exactly like if a hurricane knocks out the company. We have to run this drill twice a year. Fortunately this time, we grabbed about 5 hours sleep last night.

We are actually in a huge facility isolated up in the hills. If it wasn't raining so bad, the view of the changing leaves would be beautiful.

Other than that, it is very monotonous. One of my co-workers shares the same taste in movies/music, so we have had plenty playing in the background while we click-clack away.

If you find any particularly good movie clips, let me know. I'm always looking for good movie clips and I don't watch too many movies, so it's sometimes hard to know where the good ones are.

DT,

Did you go see "The Darjeeling Limited"?

Have you heard of "Lars and the Real Girl"? For some reason, when I read the reviews I thought of you. I'm not saying I think you're obsessed with life-size dolls, maybe it was the quirkiness factor. :)

Does your wife share your taste in music?

DT,

Forgot to ask how your daughter is doing?

I've only listened to some Yo La Tengo in my lifetime, but I always enjoy it when I hear it. That was a good one for sure.

The imeem playlist is getting good reviews in the room btw. :)

On the movie front, we've just had on some DVDs that I brought, most recently Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels. We've resigned ourselves to online episodic tv at the moment while we are waiting on testing.

artha,

I haven't seen it yet, but I love Wes Anderson. I don't normally like a lot of movies, but I like everyone he's ever made... a lot of that might have to do with the music he uses... he has excellent music taste.

As for Judy, she likes a lot of the music I like, but not all. Iron and Wine, Joanna Newsom, Neutral Milk Hotel, Yo La Tengo... she likes all of those bands. Belle and Sebastian too.

My daughter is well, thanks for asking. We brought her to the doctor and her ears were actually fine. What it turned out to be is that her last 2 molars finally broke through... that's been making her agitated the last few days but at least she's not sick.

Ragin,

Just because you have a couple of advertisers on your blog doesn't mean it's better. It means you're poor.

Volatility on OPEX day and now my KU Jayhawks are 8-0 in FOOTBALL. In basketball, it's normal for success, but in football, it's unreal.

BCS Bowl bound? Do I dare to dream?

Good stuff Bubs... much better than what my Wallstreak avatar will look like this week...

Do you have more time not that you're not in the VO? Be honest... are you getting laid less?

Glad you liked the videos...Still have to much free time, not a good thing.

It was a off week with the ladies, coincidence that I happened to leave the VO this week. If the bad luck with the ladies continues I will have no choice but to rejoin.
