What are some of the typical surfing speeds and distances?

I really don't know how to answer that... I mean, on some of the large waves you see guys on in Hawaii I bet they're going 40 or 50 mph... that's just a guess.
As far as distance, at my break on a good day you can ride a wave for a couple hundred yards.
Maybe that helps answer it?
