Liberal Media My Ass

Check the link here... the whole myth about the media being slanted leftwards should be pretty much debunked by now.

DT - I do not get your comment. I love how they than describe themselves. So 91% is converstive, 9% progressive and there is zero liberal. Remember this same group considers CNN, ABC, NBC, CBS, MSNBC, New York Times to be progressive too or main stream or middle of the road. There is really no liberal news on the airways at all.

Interesting, however, if there were demand for more progressive radio there would simply be more progressive radio (so far demand is weak - ahem - Air America). I would be much more comfortable letting listeners decide on who is “serving the listening needs of all Americans.”

Understandably a group like americanprogress.org cannot accept “simple consumer demand” as being the reason behind conservative radio. However, their reasoning that it is a "Structural Imbalance" is disingenuous. In an age where media is spread across a wide spectrum of platforms the “Fairness” Doctrine is anachronistic. It is also meaningless that they have defined who would play progressive radio. It is supposed to be about the listeners, not the producers.

The reality is that they simply don’t like conservative radio and if the market place isn’t going marginalize it then they’ll use the law to do it. That’s kind of scary.

Hello Leigh,

Thanks for the well thought out comment. Most of the time, when people don't agree around here, they write some Anonymous flame.

You raise some excellent points which I will respond to in a larger post. I have gone to too many toddler parties this weekend to be able to respond thoughfully right now. Look for it sometime this week.

Thanks! -DT
